Food Allergies ...and trying something new

With food allergies, I often run out of ideas on what to send to school for snack time.  For as long as I can remember, Julia has been asking me to find her a granola bar that is safe for her.  I have to admit that whenever I introduce a new product to her, I literally get a sick feeling in my stomach.  I just get so nervous and anxious.  Just writing about it makes me feel that way.  I try not to let her see my anxiety and fears.  It's just so hard for me because my mind just immediately goes to the worst case scenario.  Even after checking the ingredients several times, I still doubt the product and I don't know why. I know I need to become more trusting and less fearful.  It's just something that I hope I will get better with in due time.

Anyhow, I finally introduced the (nonuttin All Natural Granola Bar) to Julia this afternoon and she loved it. It was the Double Chocolate Chunk.   Yes, I took a leap of faith and she was just fine~ .....Afterall, they are:  Peanut Free, Tree Nut Free, Dairy Free, Egg Free....what was I worried about??   My only regret is that I should have tried it a long time ago.

If you still like to make your own foods at home then you will appreciate the video of Alana Elliot and Martha Stewart showing you the recipe of the Chocolate Chip Granola Bar.  You can find this on their website.

Or if you prefer the convience of it, purchase their individually wrapped bars at your local Natural Foods Store.  On their website they have a list of all the retailers that sell their products.  If you're like me and have been living under a rock....please check it out;)

  1. I struggle with trying new foods myself, and granola bars almost all contain nuts. I love Kashi TLC Soft-Baked Cereal Bars. They only contain wheat and soy, and I made sure that Kashi does add a "may contain" for shared processing lines or possible cross-contamination. They are delcious! =)

  2. Thanks Liz, I'm glad I'm not the only one who struggles with this. I know it's my daughter who has the allergies, but I feel as though I do too. I understand the frustrations and fears.

  4. I have a boyfriend who is also allergic to these things and I have been trying to find recipes for when he comes to meet the family. I am finding more baked goods than I am like dinner recipes. If there is anything you can help me with I would highly appreciate it :)sloanam0912@gmail.com
