In N Out burgers with FOOD ALLERGIES

So after learning that my daughter Julia's overnight school trip included a quick stop at IN-N-OUT Burger, I panicked!  She's never been there and I wasn't sure if they would accommodate someone with Food Allergies.  After much whining and complaining to my husband about why life isn't fair and why do these things always happen to us.... I did some homework!  I called the IN-N-OUT headquarters and asked about their policies.  I made sure that it was a peanut free facility and IT WAS!  So that was a big deal, being that Julia's most severe allergy is to peanuts.  Whew.... one down, two to go.  So it looked like it was down to the burger because I was told that they just cook their fries in Cottonseed Oil and nothing else.  Fries were safe!  So back to the burger...

The bun=free of milk, egg and peanut
The hamburger meat=free of milk, egg and peanut
The sauce=contains egg but also free of milk and peanut

So we do,:
hamburger with bun, lettuce, ketchup.. no sauce
fries with ketchup
and a sprite!

If you're going gluten free, you can order your burger "protein style". It's the burger meat wrapped in lettuce.

So far they have been so good about keeping our girl safe!

Please be sure to take all the precautions needed to ensure your childs safety while eating out.  Make sure you specify your childs allergies, and  have  them clean the grill and use a new spatula every time!  Good luck and safe eating!

    1. The only other restaurant that's been great about accommadating us with our daughters food allergies was The Old Spaghetti Factory in Ca! Good Luck and remember to always ask to speak to the manager upon arrival when discussing your childs food allergies! Then again with your server! Speak clearly and specify exact instructions;) Hope this helps

  3. I think I may LOVE you! My son has the same allergies and a trip to California should always include In and Out. This is my kids first trip though and I was in a panic!

  4. My son has severe peanut, pistachio and cashew allergies. He is also allergic to eggs and seafood. His favorite resto is Chili's where he always orders the cheeseburger, quesadilla or pizza. He also loves Macaroni Grill -- he loves their peasant bread (egg free). These restos are in California.

  6. Hi, My son is also allergic to Peanuts, Milk, Egg and Soy. We've been going to In N Out with no issues until recently. We always get the hamburger with only meat, lettuce, tomato, ketchup and mustard, but somehow my son ends up getting a mild reaction (redness around the mouth). For now, In N Out is out of our safe list option. I believe it has to do with cross contamination of some of their products. We have always specified to use a clean grill, but I'm not sure they're doing a great job cleaning it. Their management should do a better job training the employees since allergies are on the rise. This comment is not to discourage anyone from trying In N Out, just make sure that they're actually following your requests.

  7. Dear Anonymous, Thank you for your reply. I'm so sorry to hear that your son had a minor reaction. Minor or severe, it's one too many!! Yes, we must always, always make sure that we specify the severity of our children's allergies. Unfortunately, just recently we too had a situation at In N Out as well. My daughter had noticed a small amount of cheese in her burger the other day when we last visited. This was after I spoke to three employees about her severe milk allergy! I even mentioned it was life threatening! This goes to show that you just never know! Eating out is always a danger. After you order every meal when eating out, always inspect your food before you eat! Be safe~

  8. We have eaten at In and Out several times before with no problem for my peanut, tree nut, and egg allergic son but today after eating 2 bites of his "safe" hamburger he went into anaphylactic shock. I told the woman taking the orders at the drive through what his order needed to be and that he is allergic to the sauce and then I checked his hamburger (totally peeled it apart) when it came to make sure it didn't have any of the regular sauce (eggs). Obviously something didn't go right. I would advise not going during the busy lunch hour. He has had a rough time and is being kept in the hospital at least over night. I am so thankful for epi-pens, paramedics, and the hospital.

  9. Thanks dear for this information!! I usually order from secret menu in n out whenever I am there. But this is surprising information for me. If you have some more news regarding their food then share with us.

  10. The recent comments are really interesting to me because we used to eat at in n out weekly with my wheat, milk, egg, nut and more allergic son. But then the last few times, he got a rashy mouth. Once his lip swelled a bit, and I haven't let him go back since. I'm wondering if I should just get him fries, because the burger / grill / sauce probably has the most room for error. He really misses it.

  11. Chipotle is very transparent about their allergens, and it is easy to avoid ALL common allergens there.

  12. Just found this post! Heading to the west coast from the east coast next week! I am SO excited at the potential for my ANA to dairy DD to enjoy an In N Out Burger! Noticed the last comment is many months old. Do you find the buns, fries and sauce to still be dairy free?

  13. It is nice to have a safe place that is easily found whike traveling. It has been great for my teenage son, who now loves to order 4x4 since he outgrew his dairy allergy
